What is EMDR therapy?

Are you going through a difficult period, or carrying a painful experience that still seems to weigh on you? EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a recognised therapeutic method that allows psychological trauma to be treated in depth. In this article, discover how this gentle yet powerful approach can help you regain more lightness and inner safety, at your own pace.

A gentle and recognised approach

EMDR psychotherapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapeutic approach recognised for its effectiveness in treating psychological trauma, anxiety, phobias, and post-traumatic stress.

Recommended by the WHO and the Haute Autorité de Santé, adaptive information reprocessing allows painful memories that remain « stuck » in the nervous system to be unblocked, so they can be naturally reprocessed without pain or reliving the experience.

How does desensitisation work?

An adaptive information reprocessing session takes place in several phases:

  1. Identification of the targeted memory or difficulty
  2. Bilateral stimulation (eye movements, sounds, tapping)
  3. Observation of thoughts, sensations, images, or emotions that emerge
  4. Integration of new, more adaptive perceptions

The support is provided gently, at your own pace, in a safe space.

Who is it for?

EMDR therapy is particularly indicated for:

  • Past traumas (accident, violence, abuse, bereavement…)
  • Chronic anxiety
  • Phobias, OCD, psychosomatic pain
  • Emotional blocks or episodes of dissociation

Is it a safe method?

Yes. Psychological care through EMDR is a safe and respectful method. Contrary to popular belief, you do not « relive » your trauma: you process its effects from a distance, within a caring and controlled framework.

A holistic and integrative approach

EMDR is often complemented by other tools, such as mindfulness, bodywork, or guided breathing, in order to support a deeper return to balance.

In conclusion

EMDR therapy offers a gentle and powerful path to transform past wounds into resources. It allows you to regain serenity, lightness, and emotional stability.
